What a Day!

OMG, The 2nd Annual Run for Reese (Part I) was….AWESOME!!!! What a great day we had. The weather was nice – not too hot and cloudy with a breeze. There was a really good vibe and the three of us had a great run. I started off at a moderate pace and freakin’ Tracy and Dave zoomed ahead. After I coughed away the dust they were kicking up I told them to run ahead. As a fast walker I know how hard it is to slow down for a slow walker. So I figured as strong runners they would find it challenging to run at my pace. But god love ‘em they stuck with me. Yeah, they’d pull ahead every so often and then circle back but in the end we finished together. Thanks guys! And yes, I did grab a cup of water. BIG mistake. As I was bringing it up to my mouth it splashed up over my nose, in my eyelashes, down my shirt. Barely anything actually got in my mouth. So in the end I looked like a running noob, a still thirsty noob, LOL! But really it was fun, I felt really good. Yeah, the last 500 meters was hard, but throughout the run I was spurred on by the thought of Reese and the support from everyone. Your generosity and words of encouragement leading up to this left me speechless. Not an easy thing to do given my tendency to be rather loquacious.

I have to mention Team Nate, a huge team of +30 people also running to raise money for the James Funed (Nate is currently undergoing the same antibody treatment Reese went through).  They raised over $14,000!  Diana Birrell from the James Fund was there to cheer us all on.  It was awesome to meet her.  She does an incredible amount of work to further neuroblastoma research.  And thank you to Tracy and Bill’s friend Suzanne for donating the great shirts!

After the run we found a sunny patio with cold beer. Ahhhh! The perfect ending to a perfect day. Thanks to Tracy Russell for inspiring me to run and for organizing things and both Tracy and Dave Froese for the fun run. To my hubby Jon, Bill, Blake, Scarlett, Zena, James and Emily for making up the cheering section. To every single person who donated.  And of course to Reese for being my life inspiration, the inspiration behind this run and for her “GO MOMMY GO” which made kick up my heels a little higher.

Hi Amber – Not sure you remember me, but I just thought I would check out your blog as I saw Leslie’s post about your run . Way to go on doing the run and I hope you continue to raise lots of $ for the James Fund at Sick Kids. I cried at your post – As a mother and a runner, I think you are awesome. I hope that your daughter continues to get better – I think about you often since finding out about your daughter’s diagnosis last summer. I would like share information about Run for Reese with some of my running friends in Ottawa as many do the Goodlife marathon, if you are intending to use that race to raise funds – just spread the word and the network for potential fundraisers. I would run for reese myself if it wasn,t for my stupid car accident!
