Today Reese had tests to see what’s doing with her bone marrow. Things went quite swimmingly I must say, old chap. We got to the clinic at about 8:30 and of course there was a line up. But, not for us, hehehe. For once we were like freakin’ hospital royalty, speeding to the front because kids with procedures get to jump the line. I sashayed right past the people in line in my Jimmy Choos, gave a toss of my honey-coloured hair extensions, slipped a nurse a fiddy and walked right to the front like we OWNED the joint. Oh yeah baby, it’s all rock n roll. Unfortunately that’s where the VIP treatment ended. Despite being thrown back into the fray the morning rolled by nicely. Reese was weighed, up almost half a kilo! And measured, up a centimetre! She had a physical assessment and the nurse practitioner was happy with how Reese was doing. Blood work was done. We played a bit and at about 11:15 were called to the treatment room. The bone marrow biopsy and aspirate are simple procedures but they require that Reese be under sedation as they stick a long needle into her lower back, on both sides of her pelvis (slight shudder of nausea). We sang the alphabet song and by E Reese was sawing logs. 15 minutes later Reese was wheeled to the recovery room and slept off the sedation for about 45 minutes. She woke up groggy but the fog lifted quickly and we were on our way home by 12:30. We’ve got a couple days off then back to Sick Kids on Thursday.

So glad that everything went well today. Must have been the honey-coloured hair extensions that did it. I know they love that kind of stuff at the registration desk.
